Description

The first part of this two-semester community project will be an introduction to mural making. Participants will learn about the history of mural making internationally, in Boston, and in Roxbury in particular, including learning about major artists and mural-making techniques. Field trips may be arranged to see murals in Roxbury and beyond and to visit and talk with muralists in their studios: elders of the movement as well as up-and-coming young artists. After studying and analyzing the original “Africa to America” mural, participants will do collective research and then work together to create an updated design for the “Africa to America” mural. This updated mural design will be submitted to the RCC administration by the end of the semester for approval. The updated mural will be produced and installed in the spring, during the second part of this project.
