Description

This integrated skills course teaches advanced ESL students how to read and discuss a newspaper. Topics include current events, front page news and headlines, lead sentences, and the difference between informational articles and editorials. We will cover international, national, and local stories on a variety of topics. Emphasis will be given to learning newspaper vocabulary. In addition, we will use a variety of media sources, such as television, the internet, and radio as a basis for classroom discussions. This course will reinforce general reading skills and introduce newspaper research for academic purposes.
