Description

This course focuses on fundamental concepts necessary for safe, compassionate, patient-centered nursing care of diverse patients with well-defined healthcare concerns with a focus on care of the elderly. The course will also examine the patient as they relate to the family and the community. Analysis of the older/elderly adult will be conducted throughout. This course offers an introduction to concepts related to professional practice such as: legal and ethical responsibilities of the Registered Nurse, nursing process, activities of daily living, communication, nutrition, hygiene and physical assessment, basic pharmacology and therapeutic measures. Students also begin to apply these concepts to adaptation to daily living that occur during illness. Finally, student will receive an introduction to critical thinking, evidence-based practice and patient teaching.
